Council were trying to sell Russell Wharf -but guess what? they don’t and never have owned it! The local people in the past built it, and still do maintian it! Sorry Far North District Council – for once YOU lose!
Local boy Willie Apiata has returned home with a heroes welcome – He is just one of 13 living Vicoria Cross Recipients worldwide. There was a massive gathering at Waitangi Treaty Grounds on the weekend!, he earned his medal in Afghanistan in 2004 by carrying a wounded soldier 70 metres & returning to the battlefield all under live fire. as per quote by Willie? ” I have come home to these lands as a warrior, a soldier and a humble man. The most important thing in life is the people, the people, the people,” he said.
I see the annual Wild Horse Muster is being brought up earlier this year by one month! The cull is quite fair really – over here, if you want one (and believe me, they are a truly sturdy beast – can handle any conditions & are SO intelligent) you have to contact D.O.C (Department of Conservation) to “buy one”. So far, the DOC trust has approved home for only 20 of 150 horses coming out of Kaimanawa Ranges. Any mustered horses not finding homes will go to the slaughterhouse and turned into pet food! I wonder how many people in New Zealand know of the change in the ANNUAL WILD HORSE MUSTER?! Not many knowing DOC!!! Honestly, they are a “god amongst themselves” – they really should be wiped off the face of New Zealand! They have done nothing but balls up everything! They are continually living in a BOX and can’t look outside the squares…tut tut DOC
Oh yes, this weekend is also the 19th Annual Country Rock Festival.. most of the people who come to visit are really outside the square…dressed up in sequins, blue rheinstones, cowboy boots, hats the works, you name it…line dancing in Williams Road, but the locals can’t stand them..they are really a tight arse bunch! They are totally self sufficient – and the restaurants etc open for them, and its quite comical to see them sitting outside the cafes & restaurants cracking open their flasks of hot coffeee and tearing into their sandwiches wrapped in clingwrap! They don’t often wonder into the venues because if they haven’t bought a “badge” they’d rather sit in the street getting a “free sample” of tonights performance….
Finishing on a good note, the government has finally acknowledged that junior starting wage rates have been far too low? They now receive $12 minimum per hour – guess what?! so do the adults – whatever you do, if you plan to visit and live in New Zealand, for gods sakes! DON;T come up north okay? Adults minimum wage is also now, $12 per hour! and there are so many unemployed people out there – they can’t afford to grumble at the pitiful amount paid – the Employers however simply take advantage….food for thought…..catch you all next time…
